Target to Collaborate with Toronto Fashion Incubator

Target has partnered with the Toronto Fashion Incubator for its annual TFI New Label Fashion design competition.

The contest, which has been running since 1992, invites young Canadian designers to submit their fashion to be judged by a panel of industry experts.

With this year’s partnership, the winner will have the added bonus of having his or her line carried across soon-to-open Canadian Target locations in 2014.

“Target has a longstanding commitment to great design and supporting the communities in which we do business,” said John Morioka, SVP merchandising, Target, in a release. The announcement was made at a special TFI dinner hosted by its executive director Susan Langdon.

The incubator is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young fashion designers giving them a space to work and mentorship.

Target has historically partnered with big-name fashion designers to help drive traffic, including most recently Jason Wu for a pop-up shop in Toronto last February.

The first batch of Target locations will open in March 2013, with marketing efforts expected to hit the streets in the new year.
