Hyderabad based designer Gaurang, who presented his kanjeevarams with kalamkari creations in the Lakme Fashion Week recently, has won the very best designer award for utilising of Indian weaves and craftsmanship into his collection.
The 23 dresses he presented were inspired by panchantantra stories and highlighted the intricate Korvai weaving, noted for its grace and magnificence.
"I would like to dedicate this award to my loved ones for their support and also to the 450 weavers who bring life to my creativity. I really hope this award backed by Maximiliano Modesti goes a long way in accelerating the revival of Indian Traditional Weaves," Gaurang said.
Hyderabad-based fashion sesigner Gaurang Shah has won the very best designer award for usage of Indian weaves and craftsmanship in the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.
The designer presented his kanjeevarams with kalamkari - 'Ardhangini' creations on India Textile Day Aug 5.
Inspired through the Panchantantra stories, the beauty of 1950 and 1960s Kanjeevarams, Kalamkari and Zardosi, his creations highlighted the intricate Korvai weaving noted for its grace and magnificence.
"I am delighted to possess won this award, which highlights the excellence of Indian handloom and Indian fashion. I must dedicate this award to my loved ones for their support and also to the 450 weavers who bring life to my creativity," Gaurang said.
The jury panel included fashion experts Krishna Mehta, Jaya Jaitly, Anjana Sharma and Maximiliano Modesti. Gaurang will receive a prize of Rs.1 lakh to aid and encourage his talent.
